As a purchaser for a Canadian liquor wholesaler, I might have been fired for ordering congsignments of organic wine ten years ago. Nowadays it could help secure me a promotion! Trends and fads.

I'm reasonably convinced that the average wine drinker has little knowledge or awareness of organically certified wine. There's not much promotion within the industry itself or from the retailers perspective.

The fuss about organic wine is ridiculous. The industry is slowly progressing toward two separate camps which will eventually cease to benefit from an exchange of constructive dialogue and ideas. Depending on the historical and commercial realities, each wine region will independently support or resist the transition toward more sustainable modes of production. Vineyard certification is much more of a task than other enterprises, even those with significantly greater potential for securing additional revenue through export markets. Unless it is exceptional, organically certified wine rarely attracts a premium for the additional effort. Surprisingly, this is less evident for imported than local examples.

Not sure where you're located Artie, but may I suggest you try Grancari Estate Wines - quite possibly one of the finest wineries in South Australia. Worth discovering.

They're on the net - not too sure if they export though:

The selection of organic wine in my local store must have increased five-fold in the past 12 months. I've noted that there are some particularly nice reds coming in from South Australia.

I totally agree that a significant percentage of our finer wines are essentially organic without the certification labels

Thanks for your information about organic wine. As an independent distributor, I'm cautious about embracing the organic sector. I've been warned that supply and quality are both unpredictable , but perhaps that's an old fashioned view these days.
